I tell people all the time to pray and let God lead them. Whether it is about adoption or parenting or whatever God is the best person to ask for advice and someone who has learned to hear from God is the second best. I have told people that God has told us to adopt and actually seen their eyebrows raise up. **If you are reading this "yes! I saw your eyebrows raise up! It was subtle but definite!"**
So I will use this blog post to explain what I meant.
Hearing from God is not hard but sometimes we make it SO hard. But if you know a few things it is easier to spend time seeking God than to have to take three days to fix something we messed up because we didn't listen!
First, God will NEVER contradict his Written WORD. NEVER, Nope, Not Gonna happen. If you hear a voice in your head or out loud and it says to do something deceptive such as lie or steal... That's NOT God because God says in his WORD that he is not the deceiver.
Did I hear an audible voice telling me to adopt? No. I did see in the WORD that adoption is very much a God idea though. So I know that God is pro adoption already the question became "Does God want US to adopt?" IS 5:8b Tell me clearly what to do, and show me which way to turn. Proverbs 2:9b You will know how to find the right course of action every time. John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice...
So does that mean Since God is pro adoption he wants everyone to adopt? I don't think so. We are all gifted differently and we all need all the giftings so we have to come together. Unity. How many scriptures have you heard about us (Gods family) coming to unity or one accord? Its all over the Word! When everyone is flowing in their gifting the Church is a Glorious Entity!
Example: Missionary is doing his thing in remote part of a distant land finds a baby. The baby has no parents they are dead and no one in that area will take a baby who is sick or because they are just too poor to feed another mouth. Taking care of and raising babies is NOT the missionary's mission. A baby would keep him from his mission but something must be done. Somewhere there is someone whose thing is raising babies. This person supports what the missionary is doing but she could never do that because it is not her thing. The missionary gives the Baby to the Baby keeper and both are walking in their calling assisting each other to get Gods work done.
Parenting is a joy to me! One of the things that made Mike so attractive to me (besides his manly good looks, He made me write that) was the fact that he was such a good father! He really parented! How rare is that?
We enjoy our kids. We love watching them grow and teaching them and experiencing life anew with each one. We love discovering each child's strengths and fault's and helping them learn to use their talents and build on hard areas. We allow them to be kids and we don't rush them into adulthood yet they need to learn to take care of things and to respect other people. This is what we WANT to do with our lives. For us, This is ALL there is. In the end what really matters? What kind of car we drove? How good we got at our golf game? Or how many lives we were able to touch for Christ using our particular giftings? Parenting fulfills us and satisfies our personal God given desire. Why then would we NOT adopt? There are children all over the world who need families and we have a great family, why NOT grow it?
Did I hear an audible voice telling me at adopt? No. Did God tell me to adopt? Yes, with every beat of my heart and every lesson along my lifes journey and every desire and tug of my heart he has told me since I was born that this is the life he has chosen for me (and Mike) and he has prep aired us and equipped us(anointed) to do it. Adopting is so natural feeling to us. NOT adopting and having a quiet home would be so weird! What a boring life that would be...
