post op week three

Surgery was over three weeks ago. The pictures were taken on Tuesday but I didn't get time to blog on Tuesday.  The incision and all her surgery sites are healing wonderfully.  She has started OT, PT and will begin speech again next week. She does have more energy and I am not seeing any pain indicators.  Her feet and hands still turn blue though.  Not sure why but it is not blood shunting because the doctors got a complete close and her heartbeat and EEG is now 100% normal.   The boo boo on her face is from her constantly scratching a scab off.  Triple antibiotic cream is helping and I try to keep her hands away from her face but...

  1. I wonder if Talia's blue hands and feet might be due to Raynaud's syndrome - this is very rare in children, but can either exist alone or be associated with autoimmune disorders. It can be treated. A simple blood test can determine if this is the case, and a rheumatologist would be the doctor to consult...Antihistamine and large doses of caffeine make it worse, and it's definitely worse in cold weather. Do her fingers turn white, then blue, then red when the attacks subside, or are they consistently blue? The first pattern is typical of Raynaud's...the second is not.

Otherwise, she's clearly on the mend and healing fast! Hope that itchy face problem clears up soon, and that you can figure out what's causing the blueness and get it under control.

    Best wishes,
